Dead Island, Welcome To Modnoi!

Back in the glorious month of September, I was putting about 10 hours a day into this game until I got the awesome loading freeze glitch that would cause me to have to turn of my XBOX just to try again or play another game. It wasn’t till around the time that Bloodbath Arena launched where they fixed my game and I was back into the action. After playing a few arenas, I put down the game and focused on others while Dead Island just pleasantly sat on my shelf. Well, this past week I have picked it back up, and it is now as glitchy as ever online.

The game was glitched to begin with, and still is, but after joining a few online matches to try to get some achievements from the arenas, I found myself getting blown up every time I joined. Why was this happening? The mods have entered the Island of Banoi.

After playing Borderlands for weeks at a time, and then joining the fun a year later, people started dropping weird weapons I have never seen before. I ended up picking up a shotgun that does a billion damage and that could take out Cramerax in just 5 shots. Don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed this quite a bit, but trying to play the game legit becomes a huge challenge unless you have friends to play with.

Seeing zombies getting shot across the map with modded shotguns is hilarious. What’s not hilarious about it is that the game will lag so bad, that it will stay laggy and sometimes freeze until you restart your game, or system. Joining random people in co-op will never be the same again, unless you have some dedicated friends to play with. I entered a match to try to get some XP and immediately I was killed as soon as I joined. I then again died a few more times until I realized that this guy or girl and a grenade launched waiting on spawns to enter so they can get put down as soon as they join. Sometimes I do childish things like this, but when you have a lot of money saved up in your inventory, and it keeps taking big chunks out when you die, then there’s my problem.

Dead Island is one of my top 5 games of 2011, and just because the mods have entered, it doesn’t change my opinion one bit. It just makes me a little more cautious joining random matches. The game plays identical to Borderlands and I knew the mods would enter the game eventually, so this was expected. If you get your hands on any of these modded weapons, try them out when you’re just out exploring. You will enjoy several laughs along the way.

Here is a perfect example of some my friends and I having a great time with these fine weapons of destruction.

Medal Of Honor Warfighter Announced

EA’s sequel of Medal of Honor will hit the shelves this year sometime in October. Warfighter follows the story of the Tier 1 Operators. Warfighter will also be using the frostbite 2.0 engine, the same engine the runs Battlefield 3. Once more information is leaked, I will keep you informed.

Dead Island’s Ryder White DLC Impressions

Dead Island is still releasing additional content for us to enjoy. The idea is actually brilliant to have a campaign to play as the villain himself, Ryder White. If you love the idea of leveling up your character and collecting some great mods or even getting some good quests with your friends, then I would ignore this DLC. Not to mention there aren’t any achievements to go after so really you’re just playing for the joy of learning a back story and not gaining anything in return, unless you don’t really care about achievements.

If you enjoy hordes and hordes of zombies, this is for you. But beware, because it gets annoying. If you think getting your butt handed to you in the second act of the game in the city wasn’t enough, think again. Lovers of Left 4 Dead will probably enjoy this more than the average Dead Island player.

Don’t get me wrong. The DLC is actually worth the 800 MS Points if you are just into the story line of things. You won’t know what to think about Mr. White. Villain or Innocent? I won’t spoil too much, so go try it out for yourselves!

Bloodbath Arena For Dead Island Gets Release Date

The add-on we have all been waiting for has finally been announced to release on Tuesday, November 22. If you pre-ordered the special edition of Dead Island, then you should already have a code to unlock the arena on day one. The add-on will have will have 4 maps and all of your weapons and XP carry over from the story.

The cost of the add-on will be 800 MS points or $9.99 for those who didn’t get the special edition.

The new patch for consoles also has raised the level cap to 60 and there are also some new blueprints for mods for you to come across as you explore the island. The patch has also fixed my loading freeze so it should be all up and running for all of you that were affected by that.

Rage Review

So I have been busy and I am getting closer to getting this site back up to par. I have been hard at work recording some game segments and getting things together for the new site. So until then, here is another review that I never got around to until now!

Rage isn’t just any ordinary first person shooter. Never have I played a shooter like this that seemed like a totally different game. The games visuals and functions are outstanding. The farther you go, the more you will acquire and the fun grows.

The story starts out where an asteroid is hitting the planet and will cause extinction to all civilization. You are put into a pod alongside others to be held until the nightmare is over where you will awake and start maintaining the planet and start rebuilding. As you escape your pod and enter the outer world, you are immediately attacked by a mutant in which a fellow survivor is there to give you a helping hand.

The game is crazy and free-fire based. In fact, I recommend you don’t aim down the sights for better control of your weapon. Later on in the game, you will acquire schematics which enable you to build different type of ammo, bandages(health), and even your very own sentry bot. The sentry bots are amazing. If you get into heavy gunfire, just deploy one of these bad boys and watch the bot shoot and tackle your enemies to the ground.

Another edition in the game is the racing. You can compete in races to earn racing certificates for vehicle upgrades. I highly suggest keeping your homing rockets stocked up at all times for when you come across the paths of enemy vehicles trying to blow you up.

The graphics are probably what stands out the most in the game. Sometimes I would get lost in the scenary and then suddenly get shot at because I forgot I was trying to shoot people.

Rage will probably stand out in one of my top 5 games of 2011.

Verdict:

9.5/10

Coming Soon…

I will be hard at work this weekend trying to turn this site into the ultimate gaming site for all of us gamers out there. I will be doing more reviews this weekend, along with adding a forum and hopefully a profile editor for gamers all over to create there very own profile where other gamers can find you and team up to get some good gameage done or go after that hard achievement or trophy.

For all of you who keep in touch, please spread the word!

The Future Of Extra Life Gamers

Instead of working hard with the little time I have posting reviews, news, upcoming games, etc., I think this site is up for something new. I have a crap load of ideas surfacing my head right now, but don’t know how many of these ideas I can actually create. Here is what I want to accomplish.

Extra Life Gamers will of course remain exactly what it is.

I want to create some kind of social networking about games. I always posted reviews about Xbox and Wii titles, but mainly because those are the two main systems that I own. Why limit myself?

This came about when I was going after a really hard achievement that I would never achieve myself unless I got really lucky and came across some players that were even more horrible than I am. I posted on a popular website asking people if they would like to join in on a hosted lobby to try to boost each other in getting this achievement. During that week, I received about 11 friend requests and messages saying they were in and wanting to go after this achievement with me. Some of them even brought in an extra guy or two to help us out. A few hours later after keeping my word that I wouldn’t log or try to screw anyone out of the achievement until everyone got it, I was the last one to go for it. There were a couple of people that didn’t get to join because they either got rid of the game too early, or they weren’t in front of the system during the time. This was a huge success and it was a big part of my future plans for this website.

My idea is simple. Why not create a site that gamers like myself can join to meet up with other gamers? It can be used many ways. The main purpose is to get the whole gaming community together to help out each other to obtain achievements or trophies for game, or just to get a group of people together for a night of gaming fun. Maybe each individual gamer can have there own profile as well. Maybe I’ll just have a forum. I have a lot of ideas to work with.

So for the time being, I am going to post here and there what I use to (reviews, news, etc.), but I will also post my progress.

Duke Nukem Forever Review

After 12 years, we finally have Duke Nukem back in our lives. Was the wait worth it?

During the first part of the game, you already get your first boss battle. You may have seen leaked footage of it before, but just a reminder, you’re fighting a big boss in the middle of a football field. For an easy achievement, you can shoot down the blimp that hovers above the stadium. The boss wasn’t too tough for me, just keep a steady circle like movement and you can take him down with time, and finish him off by kicking a field goal. There are a lot of great moments like this in the game.

The weapon selections are pretty decent. The shotgun is by far my favorite because of the amount of damage it does close range. The level layouts are just like your basic FPS maps where you basically have one trail to follow.

The enemies are challenging to say the least. The hogs with the shotguns are a little tough, but a good shotgun blast at close range can take them out. The other main enemies are basic aliens, some equipped with jetpacks, much like Borderlands.

The interactions in the game are amusing. If you find a urinal and feel like you need to relieve yourself, you can, just by holding down the right trigger. You can also heat up popcorn, turn on sinks, and even challenge a dude to a game of air hockey. When playing air hockey, pinball, or alien abortion, it may take a few tries to get use to the controls. It took me about 10 tries to get the air hockey achievement, and I’m still trying to get the pinball achievement which seems unlikely.

Being Duke Nukem, you also have your Duke basics. Duke is a smartass and ladies man. He is also a big pervert and immature. You can often hear him mock Master Chief from Halo and I think I heard some Arnold quotes as well.

Overall, the game is worth a try. It really isn’t anything that exciting I haven’t played before, but the entertainment and humor in it keeps me going for more for some reason. Playing it on hard mode is really frustrating, but I quickly put it on easy or “piece of cake” mode so I can quickly beat the game so I can unlock insane mode and try to conquer all the achievements. Don’t forget to watch the credits all the way through for your little 5 point gamer score. Another game is teased at the end, so let’s hope the next one comes at us with perfection.

Verdict:
7.5/10

Robin Playable In Batman Arkham City

Robin will be available to play in Batman Arkham City, but only if you pre-order the game at your local Best Buy. Other retailers like GameStop and Wal-Mart will also have pre-order specials, but it looks like the only way to play as Robin, is if you get it through Best Buy. No word on if Robin will be available in upcoming DLC or not.

Red Faction Armageddon Review

Red Faction Armageddon puts you into control of Darius Mason, a relative to Red Faction Guerrilla’s Alec Mason, to put an end to the alien infestation that has happened above and below the surface of Mars.

When I first picked up my Xbox 360, my second game purchase was Red Faction Guerrilla. I put in hours into it and loved just exploring the open surface of Mars and trying to destroy and cause chaos as much as possible. Unfortunately, Armageddon left me very limited to where I can explore.

I started out the game on Insane Mode, which is the hardest difficulty, so I can tackle the harder achievements first hand before going through it again to pick up any leftover’s I may leave behind, like the dreaded audio logs. Why does every game require you to pick up audio logs? While exploring the underground of Mars, I came across a number of different guns, salvage, and a lot of aliens. After about a good 30 minutes of gameplay, my thoughts on the game lightened up.

Mason is equipped with a new ability on his wrist known as the Nano Forge. You can use this in many ways, like rebuilding broken structures and stair cases, throwing a burst of energy at overwhelming enemies, or with the right upgrades, a protective shell.

After a few hours I was on top of the surface protecting the Red Faction destroying a number of pods, destroying structures, and trying at all costs to avoid the berserkers. One of my favorite guns to use is the magnet gun. I can easily target an enemy and then shoot at a cliff far away and send them flying for meters to get them out of my way as I worry about bigger problems and bigger enemies. At this point, I got the old Guerrilla feeling and my heart started pounding with excitement.

I wasn’t too sure if I was ready for a new type of Red Faction, being a more linear mission game, but I am still having a blast playing this. The game delivered a little more than what I expected and I can’t wait to jump into more of the action later on tonight. This game may not be a first week buy to most gamers, but to me it was. If you’re a fan to the Red Faction franchise, then you will love this.

Verdict:

9/10
